2005 Archive

The following are the chronological postings and website format from the year 2005.

Me and My Family
I have a wonderful little family of myself, my wife, and four beautiful daughters. I love them all so much.
I grew up in Visalia, CA and moved to Provo, UT in 1992 to start college. I served as an LDS missionary for 2 years in Sweden and moved back to Provo in 1995. A year later, I got married and lived in Orem while finishing school, then in 2002 our little family moved to Sandy, UT.

RC Airplanes
For Christmas of 2003 Santa brought me an RC Airplane. It was a .40 sized trainer. I saved up enough extra money during the following Jan, Feb,and March to buy the engine and radio. And now I go flying as often as I can.

Medical Alarms
I work at Rescue Alert. We build and monitor Medical Alert Systems, aka Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS). They are devices that make it easy for your mom & dad or your grandparents to call for help if they fall.
Rescue Alert

Gerbils
Blackie the GerbilMy daugh-ter turned 7 and, as promised, got two gerbils for her birthday. If you are contemplating getting small pets, these entries might be interesting to you.

World Events
This should actually be titled "Events in My World" but that wouldn't fit in 200 pixels. This is the place where I have written my thoughts about things that have happened during my lifetime.

Memories
In this section, I am writing stories from when I was a boy. This is Megan's favorite part to my website. Hopefully I will be able to fill it with lots of memories.

Book of Mormon Timeline
I have make this timeline showing the events of the Book of Mormon. It has the ages of prominent people during each event and who the king or chief judge was at the time. I had fun making it. Hope you enjoy reading through it.
When the  Previously Drank and Now Fully Processed Milk  Hits the Fan

This is a good one. Never mind the synopsis. Just read it.

Thanksgiving Treasure

We had a spectacular holiday with food, family, and fun. We even deposited a real live buried treasure. full entry

New Donation Shatters Records!

With a record breaking donation, my mother has left all the previous contributors in the dust. Her substantial donation has brought our total up to $8.24, and severely disfigured our donations chart. Not only that, but we are now one-third of the way to our goal of 24 dollars. Removal of the cluttering advertisements is within sight!
Thanks Mom!

Recognizing the Site Staff

After I posted my last entry about Bethany's birth, I realized that I have a volunteer staff of people who help me with this website. A few hours after I posted the "The Story of Bethany's Birth", I received an email from my step-niece-in-law, Jammie, with spelling and grammar corrections. She usually helps me out with this, and so has been an unofficial editor for a while. I also realize that my brother, Daniel, deserves some recognition here on the front page for his illustrations. So, in honor of Daniel, Jammie, and all the people who have donated money and time to my website, I have set up the Website Staff box on the right side of the main page. I know that just having your name in a box isn't that great, but someday when the website is making hundreds of thousands of dollars, I promise to send you some of it.

Archive Created

The entry list on this page has gotten long enough that it is time to create an archive. From now on, the list of chronological entries will flow off this page and onto one of the archive pages. So if you want to look up an old entry, you may need to click over to the archives to find it.

The Story of Bethany's Birth

A thrilling tail of joy, pain, sweetness, anguish, and injury. Read about the struggle to push the moment of birth past Halloween, and the aftermath of delivery; how it wrought upon the father. Here is that story.

New Top Donator

My dear, dear sister, Michelene, has topped the donation chart. Thank you Michelene! We are a bit closer to having all these advertisements removed.

Bethany is Born!

Our family has grown. Baby Bethany was born November 1st at 12:40 AM. She weighs 8 lbs 5 ounces and is 19.5 inches long. She has lots of brown hair and is very healthy. Labor and deliver went very well, and Catherine is recovering nicely. pictures

The Violent Cleanse

That is the name I have given this virus that got me on Tuesday. I haven't been sick like that in over 10 years. It helped me remember why being sick is no good. full story

Christmas List Added

I've added a new page. Since Christmas is coming, I've posted my wish list. For those of you who are looking for a gift to get me, this should make it easy. For the rest, it might be interesting just to see what I want. If you have suggestions for additions, let me hear them. Here's the list.

Donations Policy

A few people have asked, so here is the answer.
All money sent to me through, or on behalf of, this website will go to removing the advertisements that you see surrounding the content of each page, unless otherwise specified by the sender of the money.

There you go. Now you know what our current total of 98 cents $2.00 is building toward. Our goal is $24. We still have a ways to go. current donations

Bravery Tests

This is a new story from my childhood that I have written in the memories section. It gives a little demonstration of some of events that happen in a child's life that parents never find out about. here's the link

Lazertag in San Francisco

I had a blast playing lazertag with my dad and brothers outside the Exploritorium in San Francisco. We looked a little geeky but we had enough fun to make it worth it. Read more.

New Top Donator

It has happened again! My website has inspired its readers to action. I have received not one but two record breaking donations. The 3 cents that James sent pushed him over the top, but it was immediately followed by Brett's generous 10 cent donation but even James to shame. It must be the Harry Potter page that I just added. The whole Harry Potter thing really is quite the money maker! donation chart
Update:
James has upped his donation bring our total donations to a whopping 48 cents! When the website has taken in enough, I'll get rid of the advertisements. Whahoo!

Harry Potter Theories - Snivilous

Last night I was working late and my brother, Matt, came on line. We started talking about the latest Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince theories. Since the chat contains so many of my arguments for why Severous Snape is and evil character in the books, I've decided to just post the chat. If you don't like Harry Potter, you'd better stay away from this one. Read our conversation here.

Jack the Gerbil - Part 1

Megan and Jessica love to listen to stories about Jack the Gerbil. I have made up six stories so far and will be writing them all here on my website. Here is the first of the stories. It is called Escape. Try reading it to your children or your nieces and nephews. I think they'll like it.

Artwork Added to Memories Section

My brother, Daniel, has drawn some great illustrations for my childhood memories section. He will be making artwork for each story. They are GREAT! Check them out.

Megan Rides Her Bike into the Ground

Ouch! When I got home from work I found out that a blood curdling scream had pierced the air above our driveway earlier that day. Now you too can read the story of Megan's bike wreck.

Happy Anniversary

Catherine and I have been married for 9 years today. We have built a happy home with 3 children and one on the way in those 9 years. I've never felt so devoted to any other person at any time in my life. We have many more years of life together ahead of us. I love you Catherine!

Book of Mormon Timeline

For the past couple of weeks I've been working on a Book of Mormon Timeline. It shows a summary of what happens in the Book of Mormon, in chronological order, including the birth and death of prominent people. For instance, Alma was 25 years old when he hears Abinadi preach in King Noah's court. At that same time, over in the land of Zarahemla, a 6 year old Mosiah will someday be king of the Nephites. It isn't finished yet but I've made a good start. Take a look.

New Section Added: Memories

I've added a new section for me to write down my childhood memories. I've started with two stories that I can remember distinctly. The first is of a time that I fell out of a tree and was miraculously saved from death. The other story tells how I got the 7½ inch scar on my back. I've been inspired to add this section because of Pioneer Day. I read some of the stories written by my Great, Great, Grandfather John Bevan yesterday, and decided that I had better get some of my stories written down.

Jammie Toppled as Top Donator

Well Jammie had her title for a good week. She has become famous for her generosity during that time. She has, however, been replaced. With a donation of 2 cents, Ryan (one of my co-workers) has doubled the price of the Top Donator title.

Garth's Finger Injury Dwarfs All Others

Did you ever wish that you could go back in time and fix some tiny thing that went wrong? Just change one small decision, or change the timing of an event by only one second? Garth had one of those moments two days ago. He'll be feeling it for weeks to come. Look at this

update:

My Website Has Generated Money!

The first payment to JAREDWOOD.COM ever has cleared! Jammie, my step-niece-in-law, has sent me money through my website! Thanks to her generous donation of $0.01 I have been able to add a new section to the website! It is called Top Donations. Additionally Jammie has bought herself the prestigious title of top donator! Congratulations to myself and to Jammie! You can click the Send Money link at the bottom of this page to get your name in the Top Donations section.

Hannah Smashed Her Finger

My youngest daughter, Hannah, got her finger smashed in the kitchen door today. Here is a picture

My Harry Potter Prediction

Percy is a dead man walking. Everyone is trying to guess who will die in the next Harry Potter book. I want to get my guess out before the book arrives. I say it will be Percy Weasley. He will pull a combination "Peter Pettigrew/Regulus Black" on us. Percy will see the power that the dark Lord is amassing and flirt with a relationship there. But when he sees where it is taking him, he will try to pull out. Too late though -it's a life time commitment- and Percy will be killed like Regulus was. There it is. Short and simple; my prediction for Half-Blood Prince. What are your predictions?

Amy's Busted Finger

Amy (at work) slammed her finger in the door. OUCH!!! I feel so bad for her that I have dedicated this little section of my web site to her finger while it heals.
Wed 5/27/05
I've taken a poll around the office on whether or not Amy's finger nail is going to fall off. Here are the results.
Will Amy's fingernail fall off?

Ryan: "No. The bruising is not serious enough to suggest that the contusion is of the severity that would precipitate nail-fall-offage"
Jammie: "I don't think it will fall off, but I'm not a doctor. I only play one one TV. "
Jared:
"That fingernail is a gonner. She'll be sitting, watching TV in a few weeks, fiddling with it and it'll suddenly pop off!"
Ashley: "No way. Her nails are strong. She files them and paints them and puts that oil stuff on them"
Amy: "No, no, no! don't ask that! I don't want it to fall off."

Update Tue, 5/31/05
Amy's fingernail has developed a strange discolored patch. If you click on it and look closely, you'll see that it looks a little like E.T. The rest of her finger looks loads better though!

Garth's Busted Finger

Sat 7/16/2005 This one is not for the feint of heart. Uuuuugghhhhh. Garth (my brother-in-law) was working on a rock wall outside his house two days ago. One of the apparently large rocks that he was moving around sort of landed on his finger.

Garth's Finger***Warning***
You can click on the picture to enlarge it, but you should know that it is really, really gross.
***Warning***

Sorry Amy, but this makes your busted finger section look like you were playing in some ink. I know that Amy's hurt a lot, but I don't think that we need to take a poll on whether or not Garth's finger nail is going to fall off.

I could use your help on one thing though. Garth hasn't been to a doctor for this and I think that he should go have it looked at. Send me an email expressing your desire that Garth visit a doctor and I'll forward it on to him. Hurry so we can convince him before it's too late! To Garth's credit, however, he does dip it in hydrogen peroxide every night and says that it bubbles like mad.

Sat 7/18/2005
Garth wants to assure all the worried readers that this picture "definitely looks worse than it is!!!"

Also, JAREDWOOD.COM can exclusively reveal that Garth is willing to sell his fingernail to the highest bidder when it comes off. Don't miss your chance to own this quintessential artifact, which the raw powers of nature have fashioned into an embodiment of human suffering.
