Jared Wood Home Family Career Hobbies Memories Events Observations

This site is set up as a blog for me, Jared Wood, to write my experiences so they can be shared with my friends and family. It is organized so that topics run down the left side and chronological entries down the middle. Website tools and information are on the right.

Family

My wife and I have have put together a wonderful family We have four beautiful daughters and I love them all so much. I grew up in Visalia, CA and moved to Provo, UT in 1992 to start college. I served as an LDS missionary for 2 years in Sweden and moved back to Provo in 1995. A year later, I got married and lived in Orem while finishing school, then in 2002 our little family moved to Sandy, UT.

Memories

In this section, I am writing stories from when I was a boy. This is Megan's favorite part to my website. Hopefully I will be able to fill it with lots of memories.

Career

I am a sofware engineer at Rescue Alert. We build and monitor Medical Alert Systems, aka Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS). They are devices that make it easy for your mom & dad or your grandparents to call for help if they fall.

Hobbies

For Christmas of 2003 Santa brought me an RC Airplane. It was a .40 sized trainer. I saved up enough extra money during the following Jan, Feb,and March to buy the engine and radio. And now I go flying as often as I can.

Gerbils

Blackie the GerbilWhen my oldest daughter turned 7, she got a couple of gerbils for her birthday. If you are contemplating getting small pets, these entries might be interesting to you.

World Events

This should actually be titled "Events in My World" but that wouldn't fit in 200 pixels. This is the place where I have written my thoughts about things that have happened during my lifetime.

Book of Mormon Timeline

I made this timeline showing the events of the Book of Mormon. It has the ages of prominent people during each event and who the king or chief judge was at the time. I had fun making it. Hope you enjoy reading through it.

Happy Halloween

Eric Mattle and I are partners in crime at work. Beside writing software together we also solve any computer related problems around the office. Here we are this year, on Halloween, as the Dynamic Duo - Batman & Robin.

Terminal Cancer

Catherine's brother, Rick, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Statistics tell us that he has between 2-4 months to live. Catherine and I are on day 3 of this discovery and it was time to write some of my thoughts and feelings about Rick and our families. Terminal Cancer

Escaping Trouble

My children love to hear this story, but it is one of those things where you have to say, I did this but don't you do this. This story makes my wife glad that we don't have any boys. Escaping Trouble

Teachers Love our Children

Parent teacher conference was full of good news this year. If you don't want to hear me brag about my children then don't click on this link.

Record Setting Donation Dwarfs All Others

The future of this website is secure thanks to a huge donation from my dad & my other mother. His donation has thoroughly flattened the bar chart. I want to be sure to thank everyone who has donated to the website in the past. Even though only the top 5 donations are listed on the bar chart, all the contributors are listed in the Website Staff section.

Bloody Eyes

It was a rough weekend. Everyone I meet takes one look at me and asks, "What happened to you?" I've told the story many many times now. If you haven't heard it from me, just read Advanced Ammon-itis.

Update:
Inspired by Amy Goffin at work, who has a particularly volatile reaction to my bloodstained eyes, I made this music video.

Confession to Mom

A vivid memory from my childhood requires me to make a small confession to my mom. But, since I'm too old to get in trouble for it now, I'll go ahead and tell the story of the me, Matt Feil, and the Invisibility Towel. You won't remember this Mom, but that's only because we never got caught!

Hello David Fondell!

I met David 12 years ago while serving a mission in Sweden. Apparently he found my website last week and liked it enough to try to get my attention. It worked! (take a look at the donation chart) David, I'll be sending you an email soon and writing about you, Calle, and Markus here on the website soon. Thanks for contacting me! Say hello to Calle, Ellinor, and Markus for me.

We love camping!

I have been so negligent about writing to this thing! But, I'm back with an entry from this past summer. Camping with my girls is a yearly tradition. This was the first year for Jessica and we had lots of fun.

Donations are Alive!

The top donations chart has been dormant for several months, but today it burst into life with a kind donation from my old elementary school friend, Geoff Sanders. If you've read the exploding egg story in my memories section, then you'll remember Geoff.

At the same time, we lament that Brett Hibbert has been bumped off the top donations list ...... sorry Brett.

My Dinosaur Theory
