We have posted a medical alert comparison chart comparing Rescue Alert and other medical alarm system companies. Many potential customers have talked about how hard it is to do reach on Personal Emergency Response System with some of the other companies. They get the run-around, and just plain lied to by some of the other companies out there. Since our product is generally superior, we don't have a problem helping people out by showing the important differences between medical alert systems available to them.

It is quite frustrating when your parents or grandparents don't want the medical alarm. We had a Rescue Alert system returned today because the daughter bought the system for her dad hoping that she could convince him to use it. She wasn't able to, he flat out refused to wear a panic button. I think it is a common problem that children or grandchildren face when they start worrying about their parents. I had this problem with both of my grandparents. My grandpa Wood got a Rescue Alert and returned it after a month saying that he didn't need it and wouldn't use it. My grandpa and grandma Helzer didn't want one because they had each other. They said that when one of them died - then the surviving spouse would get one. That seemed like a good argument until Grandma fell between the bathtub and the toilet and Grandpa couldn't get her out. He hadn't realized that he couldn't just pick grandma up anymore. After that, aunt Barbara and I asked them to get a medical alert system again and this time they said yes.
This scenario is quite common. It takes a fall before the potential user of the system realizes that they should subscribe to a monitoring service. Here is some brain storming from my experiences on how to help convince your loved ones that they should get a medical alert system.
- You need to get used to using it before you get too old. Sometimes subscribers forget that they are wearing a new panic button. If they have been wearing a panic button for a year or two before they need it, they tend to remember it in time of need.
- The first fall is often devastating. Sometimes it takes a first fall for someone to realize that they really do need help contacting their family in an emergency situation. Unfortunately, falling down and breaking a rib or a hip and then lying there for several hours waiting to be discovered takes a tremendous toll on the general health and resilience of the person. Most people never fully recover from this type of stress and experience a significant decrease in quality of life for the remainder of their life. When an accident happens, responding quickly makes all the difference.
- Let the idea sink in. Don't just mention the idea of a personal emergency response system once and then leave it at that. Talk about it over several weeks. These systems really do help. They really are a good idea. Often it just takes bringing it up a few times and letting your mom or dad ponder on it over a month. When you mention your concerns, they will start to notice those concerns themselves, after that they will see the value of a system that links them to their family during an emergency.
- It is not just calling for help. Rescue Alert's response center doesn't just call the police for you. We call all the family members on your list who have asked to be notified of an incident. We have received many letters from children who had a parent wearing a panic button and the parent died as a result of an incident. These letters are filled with gratitude, saying that because of the Rescue Alert, all their brothers and sister showed up at the hospital in time to say goodbye before their parent passed away. Rescue Alert had called them all.

Today we added a page of funny stories for seniors to the website. Some of them are pretty good. Hopefully they will be enjoyed by some web surfers.

Yesterday a lady was out walking her dogs at 1 am and she fell on some rocks. She couldn't get back up and waited for an hour hoping that someone would come by and help her out. Since it was the middle of the night no body came. She thought that her Rescue Alert panic button wouldn't work because she was outside the house but decided to give it a try anyway. Our response center get the signal and couldn't make voice contact so we dispatched the police. They found her outside and got her home safely. I need to share this story with my neighbor. She is worried about her mother but has concerns that a medical alert system won't work when she goes for walks. She aught to install it and do a range test with the panic button to see how far away from the apartment it will work.

It looks like MSN Search if the fastest to send there web robots out. Our changes have shown up there first. I am still waiting to see if Rescue Alert will rank on Google or Yahoo someday. Before the changes we didn't show up at all for Medical Alert Systems, Medical Alarm Systems, Personal Emergency Response Systems, Panic Buttons, or Fall Alarms. I am hoping that with the recent changes, our web site will start showing up.

I have been working on our web store and website for the past 3 weeks. We are really hoping to increase our search engine placement with the new format. We have the meta tags, the key words in titles, headers, and links. We are submitting to the engines. What we need now is other prominent websites around the Internet linking into us. Hmmm.

I have seen Grandma a few times since installing the medical alarm and she always shows me her panic button. She is so proud to be 'helping out' her Grandson's company by wearing the button.

I installed a Rescue Alert in my grandparents home. It is nice to be able to do something with my career to benefit them. I may not have known about medical alert systems if I wasn't working at Rescue Alert. Two weeks ago Grandma fell in the bathroom. She fell between the toilet and the bath tub and Grandpa couldn't get her out from between them. I had talked to them before about getting an emergency response system but they always said they'd wait until one of them died because that is when the other one would really need it. The fall convinced them to get one now. I am usually here in the office working with the technology of our systems, so it was nice to go out and do an install. Grandma said that she feels safer. That made me feel good. |
